Myra Hutton Textiles give a contemporary twist to an ancient craft to produce a range of richly textured, colourful felt and stitch decorative pieces, each one totally unique and individually crafted with its own story to tell…

I discovered Textiles when I was very young and it has played a part in my life ever since. Having travelled several textile paths along the way, I eventually discovered my real passion lies in the artistic and playful side of textiles. Having left teaching in 2003 I spent a couple of years developing and honing my techniques before starting my business which has evolved over the years.

With inspiration from my natural surroundings and experiences I found I could draw on the hues, shapes and textures of land, sea and air with the influences of the elements aiming to capture the essence of a special place or scene. Whenever I’m out and about I’ll take endless photographs, drinking in the tones, looking for the beauty and the beast, I love tumble down buildings, unruly wildness, broken gateways against the fertile greens and browns of the rolling Tuscan landscape or the dark earthy secrecy of a wooded area, the moss and lichen covered walls of the Dales or Lakes and English Country Gardens. This is now translated into my work by way of painting with fibre or dyes and drawing with stitch through a range of tactile artworks, pieces for home interiors, greetings cards and brooches.

I have been three times a finalist in the Craft&Design Selected Maker awards and invited to exhibit and demonstrate in the Master Crafts Marquee at Living Crafts, Blenheim Palace and Hatfield House during Craft & Design month.. JamEton Gallery commissioned a flock of 40 robin brooches to celebrate their 20th anniversary and January 2015 saw my first creative book published for Search Press (20 to make – felt brooches with machine stitching)

My work has been sent all over Europe, to America, Canada, Japan, Australia & New Zealand.

With a background in Textiles & Education I also deliver ‘Let them create’ workshops and projects to all ages.
